The end of the civil war marked the beginning of the industrial revolution in the United States, and immigrants from all over the world flocked to the country in search of their American dream. However, what awaited most of them was poverty, discrimination, and despair. Manhattan, New York, was teeming with immigrants arriving through the ports, and the 6th district, Five Points, was considered at the time the world’s worst slum. The mobsters had corrupted the entire area, even bribing the police; Five Points was their territory, and they were the law. But even in Five Points, where robbery, prostitution, and murder seemed to reign, there were still glimmers of hope. Luke Burns was an honest and righteous teenager who realized that the mob was responsible for the harsh living conditions and that joining them would not lead him to the American dream. However, his older brother, Brad Burns, had become the assassin for the biggest mob group in Five Points, the Grave Diggers—a secret he kept from Luke to protect him. Brad was known as the Grim Reaper, and his reputation as a ruthless and skilled killer preceded him.
